ABOUT
WRITE ON SPEAK OUT
WRITE ON SPEAK OUT is curated by the team at Write On School for Young Writers.
We are supported by Plains FM and our funders for each project.
In 2020 Copyright Licensing NZ supported our first LOCKDOWN VOICES project, where young New Zealanders ages 8-18 shared their experiences of the first COVID-19 Lockdown in Aotearoa.
In 2022, Creative New Zealand provided funding for a dedicated site to give voice to young writers aged 12-20 as they, in turn, gave their VOICES FOR THE PLANET.
We went it alone in 2023 to produce a THEN and NOW edition to celebrate our 30th anniversary.
Our 2024 project is FRESH VOICES with the production costs covered by a grant from Christchurch Creative Communities and workshops funded by Rātā Foundation and Creative Communities Christchurch.
Our Write On team provides workshops, prompts and tips to engage young writers and encourage them to work on first drafts. The young writers are then mentored by our team of writing tutors through the process of bringing their initial ideas to the page. There are no rejections, only suggestions.
With assistance from Plains FM, each writer then records the piece in their own voice. A compilation of the readings also goes to air on Plains FM.
Our plan is to fill these pages with the voices of young writers. If you would like to support or engage with this project please email us.
